The Immigration Department issued the advisory on Sunday also directing applicants who had already made their passport applications online to revisit the e-citizen portal in order to book appointments. Although passport applications are made online through the e-citizen portal, applicants visit passport processing centres to have their biometrics taken. Last month, the government extended the deadline to travel on the new e-passport to March 1 next year for all Kenyans. There are however those that do not need to book an appointment to submit their application for new passports. They will, however, need to provide proof of the need to travel as they submit their applications. They include;

People traveling abroad for urgent medical attention.Students on scholarship that need to travel urgentlyPublic servants who need to travel urgentlyBusiness people who need to travel urgently for business.

Under the new system, you will be required to book the appointment on eCitizen, print your application and then submit it on the date that you chose. The immigration centers that are currently processing the new Kenyan passports in Kenya are in;

Nairobi Mombasa KisumuNakuru KisiiEldoret and Embu

The services have also been rolled out at Kenyan embassies in Pretoria, London, Paris, Dubai, Washington, and Beijing.
